🏴‍☠️ 6 Hacks for Better ChatGPT Performance

ChatGPT True Potential with Smart Prompts

The ChatGPT "Cheat Code" Nobody's Talking About 🤫

Do you know those people who always seem to get the most out of ChatGPT? Well, they're not using some fancy AI training or esoteric coding tricks.

The ChatGPT "Cheat Code" Nobody's Talking About 🤫

We'll cover simple yet effective methods to improve the performance and efficiency of ChatGPT through better prompting.

Each method is explained in detail with examples to guide you. No more struggling - just straightforward prompting advice.

1. Write clear, direct instructions - Precise prompts lead to better responses.

EXAMPLE PROMPT

How can I calculate the sum of various monetary values in a single row using Excel? I'm aiming to automate this process for an entire spreadsheet, where each row's sum is displayed in a final column labeled "Total."

Condense the main points from the meeting into a brief overview. Subsequently, create a markdown list identifying the participants and summarizing their primary contributions. Conclude with any proposed actions or follow-up tasks as mentioned by the presenters.

2. Provide relevant reference texts - Give GPT the right information for accurate answers.

EXAMPLE PROMPT

1. You will be given a document that is enclosed by triple quotes and a specific question to answer. Your job is to use only the information from the provided document to answer the question. Make sure to reference the part of the document that supports your answer using this format: ({"citation": …}). If the document does not have the necessary information, simply respond with: "Insufficient information." If you provide an answer, it must include a citation from the document.

```"""<insert document here>"""```
Question: <insert question here>
3. Break complex tasks into steps - Simplify by splitting into subtasks.
EXAMPLE PROMPT
You will be dealing with questions from people who need help fixing issues as part of a tech help team. Guide the person by doing the following:
- First, have them make sure all the wires going in and out of their internet box (router) are plugged in tight. Wires can sometimes get loose.
- If everything is plugged in but there's still a problem, find out the exact model of their internet box.
- Next, you will give them steps to restart their internet box:
- If their box is model MTD-327J, tell them to press and hold the red button for 5 seconds, then wait 5 minutes before checking if the internet works.
- If their box is model MTD-327S, tell them to disconnect it from power and then plug it back in, waiting 5 minutes before checking the internet.
- If trying to restart doesn't fix the issue after 5 minutes, say they need more help by saying {"IT support requested"}.
- If they start talking about something completely different, ask if they want to stop the current help session and note what they need help with as follows:
<insert simple way to categorize their new question here>
I need help getting my internet to work again.
4. Allow time for reasoning - Let GPT "think" for more reliable outputs.
EXAMPLE PROMPT
First, solve the problem on your own. Afterward, look at the student's answer and decide if they got it right.
Problem to solve: I'm setting up a coffee shop and need to figure out my startup costs.
- Renting the space costs $50 per square foot.
- Espresso machines and other equipment cost $200 per square foot.
- I have a deal for maintenance (cleaning and repairs) that's $50k per year plus $5 per square foot.
How much will the first year's startup costs be, based on the size of the shop in square feet?
Student's Work: Let x be the square footage of the coffee shop.
1. Rent cost: 50x
2. Equipment cost: 200x
3. Maintenance cost: 50,000 + 5x
Their total startup costs calculation: 50x + 200x + 50,000 + 5x = 255x + 50,000
5. Leverage external tools - Enhance GPT's capabilities with code, APIs, etc.
EXAMPLE PROMPT
You can run Python code by putting it between three backticks, like this: ```your code here```. Use it to solve problems.
Calculate all the real roots for this equation: 2*x**4 - 4*x**3 + x**2 - 8*x - 20.
6. Test systematically - Measure and improve accuracy through consistent evaluation.
EXAMPLE PROMPT
You'll receive text enclosed by triple quotes, representing the answer to a question. Check if it contains the following information:
- Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon.
- The date Neil Armstrong first walked on the moon was July 21, 1969.
For each point, follow these steps:
1. State the information in your own words.
2. Provide a citation from the answer that closely matches this point.
3. Evaluate if someone unfamiliar with the topic could infer the point directly from the citation. Explain your reasoning.
4. Respond with "yes" if the answer to step 3 is affirmative. Otherwise, write "no".
5. Lastly, tally the number of "yes" answers.
Don't settle for subpar GPT performance. Put these prompting best practices into action for your projects today. With the right strategies, you can unlock GPT's full potential and get real results.
